上海的垃圾分类政策，把我们日常的生活垃圾归纳为4类：
Hazardous Garbage
有害垃圾
包括：电池（battery）、水银温度计（mercury thermometer）、药丸和药剂（pill and medicine）等。
RecyclableGarbage
可回收物
包括：纸类(paper)，塑料(plastic)，玻璃(glass)，织物(textile)，金属(metal)等。
WetGarbage
湿垃圾
主要指厨余垃圾（kitchen waste）。
DryGarbage
干垃圾
可以理解为除上述几类之外的其他垃圾。比如：砖瓦陶瓷、尘土、已污染的卫生纸/纸巾，还有其他难以回收、无法利用的废弃物。

表达篇
Throw the rubbish≠扔垃圾
扔垃圾用英语该怎么说？
首先要避免一个误区，如果你直接说 “Throw the rubbish”，外国人一定会给你一个困惑的眼神。
Throw用在这里，更多的是抛、投掷的意思。
比如：
Throw a ball.
因此，Throw the rubbish表达的是，把垃圾随处乱丢，或者抛来抛去。
这的确是……令人窒息的操作，虽然这并不是小伙伴的本意。
所以，“扔垃圾”到底该怎么表达？
如果是要把家里的垃圾拿出去倒掉，可以说：take out the trash。
例如：I took out the trash in the morning.
我早上把垃圾倒掉了。
如果出门在外，更常用的说法是：put it in the trash can。
例如：Don't drop the bottle there, please put it in the trash can.
不要把瓶子扔在那，请把它扔到垃圾桶里去。
此外，waste、litter、garbage、trash、rubbish……这么多关于“垃圾”的词，到底该怎么用？
在美式英语中
trash= 生活垃圾
garbage= 厨房/卫生间的垃圾
例如：
Don't throw your trash on the ground.
别把你的垃圾乱丢在地上。
The smell of the garbage overpowered me.
这垃圾的臭味简直让我崩溃。
在英式英语里
rubbish= 生活+厨余垃圾
例如：
Litter baskets have been placed under the trees, but people still throw their rubbish everywhere.
树下已设置废物筐，但是人们仍到处扔垃圾。
在美式+英式英语的通用用法里
litter= 乱扔在地上的垃圾，也可以用作动词，表示“乱丢杂物”
waste= 废物的总称，泛指抛弃不要的东西
例如：
Harvey, you do realize you just littered, right?
哈维，你意识到自己乱丢垃圾了，对吗？
Waste disposal is one of the biggest headaches for cities.
垃圾处理是许多城市最头痛的事情之一。

政府行动篇
低碳生活（Low Carbon Lifestyle)
为了实施垃圾分类，倡导低碳生活（promote low-carbon lifestyle），各国政府也是费尽了心思。
日本算得上是垃圾分类界的“优等生”，他们扔一个香烟盒（cigarette case），步骤也是非常多——外面的塑料包装纸（overwrap）、纸盒，还有纸盒内的铝箔纸（aluminum foil），都要拆出来分类丢掉。
此外，政府每年会发给居民发好几份材料，告诉你垃圾该怎么分类，在哪一天可以扔哪一种特定类别的垃圾等等。
